For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
The molecular organization of the 'rp49-Sry-jan' gene cluster, including gene order, direction of transcription and partial overlap of the janA and janB genes is strictly conserved between D.melanogaster and D.pseudoobscura.pseudoobscura. In D.melanogaster the translation initiation codons of the divergently transcribed Sry-β and janA are separated by only 378bp, whereas the corresponding distance is only 176bp in D.pseudoobscura.pseudoobscura. Promoter analysis reveals that despite the physical proximity of the two genes, their transcription is regulated by separate cis-acting sequences.
