Mutant flies have a reduced adult lifespan compared to controls (at both 30[o]C ad 25[o]C).
Mutant flies show decreased resistance to oxidative stress (1% hydrogen peroxide) compared to controls.
Abdominal segments A5 and A6 are transformed towards an A4 identity in homozygous males. The tergites show posterior-to-anterior transformation, there is almost complete loss of male pigmentation in A5 and A6 and hairs are seen on the sixth sternite. A vestigial "A7" tergite, that is not normally present in males, is seen.
gpp1A suppresses the pairing-sensitive silencing seen in flies carrying in cis pairs of transgenes that contain MCP-PRE (P{Mcp-ff#13}101 and P{Mcp-w#14}AP-2stummelbein, or P{Mcp-w#11}16 and P{Mcp-w#11}102 or P{Mcp-wy#2}63 and P{Mcp-ff#15}30). The penetrance of the rotated genitalia phenotype seen in Abd-BM1 males is enhanced if they are also heterozygous for gpp1A. The enhancement is stronger if the gpp allele is inherited maternally.
Selected as: a mutation that dominantly suppresses pairing-sensitive silencing of the mini-w gene in P{Mcp-ff#10}5 or P{Fab7-w#un3}18.73.1.
