smt3^GD10521-knockdown clones exhibit a range of defects including reduced wings and malformed legs. Haltere transformations range from the appearance of ectopic bristles to the significant outgrowth of wing tissue.

Expression of smt3^GD10521 in the haltere under the control of Scer\GAL4^A9 results in multiple defects including ectopic bristle formation and increased size.

Expression of smt3^GD10521 under the control of Scer\GAL4^arm.PS results in embryos with missing or fused denticle belts.

Depending on the insertion line used, expression under the control of Scer\GAL4^Mef2.PR can result in early pupal lethality or late pupal lethality.

Expression of smt3^GD10521 using Scer\GAL4^Bx-MS1096 results in a marked reduction of mitotic cells throughout the wing pouch of the wing disc and in the dorsal compartment in particular. Adult wings are greatly reduced in size and are misshapen.
