Detailed Description

Homozygous adult escapers are occasionally seen. These escapers do not show abnormalities in the thorax or in wing hair polarity. The vast majority of ommatidia are wild type in eyes of adult escapers, but some ommatidia are missing photoreceptors and a small fraction show defects in R3/R4 fate specification. The adult escapers are grossly uncoordinated and on eclosion they immediately fall into the food and die. If the flies are retrieved before they get stuck in the food, they are unable to fly and show a severely delayed righting reflex and although they appear to walk normally, they have impaired climbing behaviour.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

bdg164 dominantly suppresses the ommatidial polarity defects of stansev.PU, dgo380 mutants.

bdg164 dominantly enhances the ommatidial polarity defects of Vangsev.PR, dgosev.PU or dsh1 mutants.

The ommatidial polarity defects caused by dshsev.PU or fzsev.PU are not modified by one copy of bdg164.

Homozygosity for bdg164 enhances the ommatidial polarity defects caused by homozygosity for Vangstbm-6, Vangstbm-153 or stanfrz3.

Homozygosity for bdg164 enhances the ommatidial polarity defects caused by fz20/fz19.
