In shrb^O3 heterozygotes, ovaries present 'stem cysts', in which stem cells are interconnected to daughter cells by fusome-like structures rather than containing spectrosomes.

Somatic clones of shrb^O3/shrb^O3 cells in the third instar larval eye disc display low levels of apoptosis (detected by Caspase-3 staining) and show abnormal localization of rho in endosomes.

32% of egg chambers have 32 cells in shrb^O3/+ females. 41% of heterozygous germaria contain 'stem cysts' in which the female germline stem cells are interconnected to daughter cells.
