Homozygotes die sometime between the first and second instar larval stages of development. Many of the dead larvae have two set of mouth hooks, indicating that lethality primarily occurs at the moult from first to second instar.
Homozygous clones in the eye results in small, rough eyes that mostly have a notch at the anterior portion. Degeneration of ommatidial structures is seen within the clone, and homozygous clones in the eye disc contain increased numbers of apoptotic cells.
