ScerGAL4GMR48B04 drives expression in a subset of dopaminergic PAM neurons, including those that project to mushroom body gamma lobe slices 1, 2, 4, 5 and mushroom body beta' lobe slice 2.

ScerGAL4GMR48B04 drives expression in mushroom body extrinsic neurons, including approximately 60 dopaminergic PAM neurons, that innervate mushroom body gamma lobe slices 3, 4 and 5, and mushroom body beta' lobe slice 2.

ScerGAL4GMR48B04 labels a subset of dopaminergic neurons including ~55 dopaminergic PAM neurons and ~12 TH negative neuron associated with PAM clusters. Collectively, these neurons innervate mushroom body gamma lobe slices 1, 2, 4 & 5 and mushroom body beta' lobe slice 2.

ScerGAL4GMR48B04 drives expression in a subset of PAM neurons that innervate mushroom body beta' lobe slice 2, beta lobe slice 1 and gamma lobe slices 1 to 5.

Inhibition (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xUAS at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR48B04 cells in adults significantly reduces 3-min associative olfactory water-reward memory, compared to controls; inhibition during acquisition alone also significantly reduces 3-hour, but not 24-hour memory.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 31[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR48B04 cells in thirsty adults, in combination with a paired odor, results in a significant increase in 3-min and 3-hour, but not 24-hour, associative attractive olfactory memory, compared to controls; increased 3-min and 3-hour memory is also observed in water-sated adults.

Blocking the output (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR48B04 neurons shortly before and during training significantly impairs short-term, but not long-term, olfactory memory in starved flies trained with sucrose, compared to controls.

Acute thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR48B04 neurons results in a significant short-term preference for a paired odor (artificial memory) in starved or fed flies, compared to controls; this preference is no longer seen after 24 hours.

Inhibition (using Hsap\KCNJ2UAS.EGFP or Ctet\TeTxLCTNT.UAS) of Scer\GAL4GMR48B04 neurons, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to 1 day prior to training and testing, does not affect 3 hour aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 30[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR48B04 cells in adults, in combination with a paired odor, results in a significant increase in short-term, but not long-term, associative attractive olfactory memory, compared to controls; memory induction does not occur when activation is restricted to a smaller subset of cells using Scer\GAL80R58E02.

Inhibition (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xUAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR48B04 cells in adults during training significantly reduces short-term, but not long-term, associative appetitive (sugar) olfactory memory, compared to controls; memory reduction does not occur when activation is restricted to a smaller subset of cells using Scer\GAL80R58E02.
