Description

Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion has resulted in a 2821bp deletion from -1922 to +899 relative to the ebd1 transcription start site, which removes part of ebd1 and part of CG3344.

Comment:

2821 bp deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{EPgy2}ebd1EY01876 which removes part of ebd1 and part of hiro. Extends from -1922 to +899 relative to the ebd1 transcription start site. 3L:685545 (R5) was used as the transcription start site for the mapping.

In adult midguts bearing ebd1Df5 mutant MARCM clones, an abnormally large number of progenitor cells (due to excessive mitotic activity of the cells) is found in the vicinity of the mutant clones.

Adult ebd1240/ebd1Df5,ebd2136 mutants show significant increase in the number of progenitor cells (intestinal stem cells and enteroblasts) in the midgut and unlike in controls frequently display chains or clusters of progenitor cells, the penetrance of this latter phenotype is increased further in ebd1Df5,ebd2136/ebd1240,ebd2136 double mutants.

ebd1240/ebd1Df5 suppresses the apoptosis of photoreceptor cells which is seen in ApcQ8 homozygotes, such that the rescued photoreceptors are wild type in length.
