The adult midgut defects (excess of mitotic cells, aberrant epithelium architecture) characteristic for Apc[Q8] mutants, a fly model of colorectal cancer, can be ameliorated by combination with ebd1[240]/Df(3L)ED9698, ebd2[136] mutant alleles.
Adult ebd1240 mutants show significant increase in the number of progenitor cells (intestinal stem cells and enteroblasts) in the midgut and unlike in controls frequently display chains and less frequently even clusters of progenitor cells. ebd1240 mutant midgut somatic clones induced during adulthood are markedly larger and contain more cells than control clones and an abnormally large number of progenitor cells (due to excessive mitotic activity of the cells) is found in the vicinity of the mutant clones.

The increased number of enteroblast cells in midguts of newly eclosed ApcQ8 mutant adults is significantly suppressed by ebd1240 homozygosity.
ebd1240/Df(3L)ED4136 suppresses the shortened photoreceptor phenotype caused by expression of armS10.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long.
Expression of Hsap\JRKScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4ebd1.PB rescues the indirect flight muscle defects seen in ebd1240 ebd2136/Df(3L)ED9698 ebd2136 mutants.
