ScerGAL45-HT7.ERGP expresses in cells adjacent to (but not a part of) the insulin secreting cells of pars intercerebralis, as well as ellipsoid body and bulb. No colocalization in insulin secreting cells is seen with anti-Ilp2 staining in adults or larvae.
ScerGAL45-HT7.ERGP drives expression in the anterior and posterior rings of the ellipsoid body. In the latter, expression is observed in the innermost and outermost ring. Expression is also detected in approximately 30 paired cell bodies in the anterior cortex that project to the bulb (lateral triangle) and to the ellipsoid body.
ScerGAL45-HT7.ERGP labels a serotonergic receptor and it is expressed in subsets of cells in the larval brain and ventral nerve cord. In the adult, labelling is mostly in the central complex, including 48 ring neurons of the ellipsoid body and the lateral triangles (bulbs). Co-localisation with Ddc is observed in the central complex. There is also weak staining in some antennal lobe glomeruli and in one neuron that innervates it. This neuron does not express Ddc. One cluster of cells labelled by ScerGAL45-HT7.ERGP in the lateral brain is in close proximity to a group of cells which express Pdf. ScerGAL45-HT7.ERGP also drives expression in paired neurons of all thoracic and abdominal neuromeres of the thoracico-abdominal ganglion: 40 and 30 neurons, respectively. In the larval brain and ventral nerve cord and in the adult thoracico-abdominal ganglion the absence of co-localisation between ScerGAL45-HT7.ERGP and Ddc suggests that ScerGAL45-HT7.ERGP is expressed postsynaptically.
Ablation (using hidUAS.cUa and rprUAS.cUa) of Scer\GAL45-HT7.ERGP cells does not affect appetitive (fructose) or aversive (salt) olfactory memory or naive preference for olfactory or gustatory stimuli in larvae, compared to controls.
