Expression of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of either Scer\GAL4Appl.G1a or Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in increased resistance to oxidative stress, which expression under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 has no effect on oxidative stress resistance.

Expression of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of either Scer\GAL4Appl.G1a or Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in a significant increase in mean lifespan compared to controls.

Expression of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 results in a modest enhancement of longevity of only 8-14% compared to controls.

Expression of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.Switch.PO in the presence of RU486 does not result in an increase in lifespan.

Co-expression of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS suppresses the rough eye and loss of eye pigmentation phenotypes seen in adults expressing Zzzz\CAGQ108.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. At the ultrastructural level, the structural integrity of the retina is improved, although vacuoles are still present.

Co-expression of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS suppresses the rough eye and loss of eye pigmentation phenotypes seen in adults expressing Zzzz\CAG127Q.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.

The addition of ZwGD1203 abolishes the ability of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS to suppress the eye defects caused by expression of Zzzz\CAGQ108.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, so that the resulting flies have a rough eye which shows loss of pigmentation.

Co-expression of RpidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS significantly improves rhabdomere structure and rescues photoreceptor neurons in 4 week old flies expressing Zzzz\CAGQ108.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT.
