Expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB causes toxicity resulting in survival to adulthood and eye abnormalities. Survival of the mutants is increased by rapamycin treatment. Rapamycin also decreases the toxicity of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 in the eye.

Expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of either Scer\GAL4nrv2.PS, Scer\GAL4Mhc.PW or Scer\GAL4ey.PB results in a reduction in lifespan. No reduction in survival is seen when Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 at 25[o]C.

Flies expressing Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4nrv2.PS exhibit an impaired climbing response compared to controls.

Expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB at 25[o]C leads to the formation of abnormal eyes characterized by smaller size, abnormal shape and rough surface. At 29[o]C some flies exhibited complete loss of eyes.

Expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 leads to rhabdomere loss, but not until 20 days post-eclosion.

The expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls-largeT under the control of Scer\GAL4nrv2.PS, Scer\GAL4ey.PB or Scer\GAL4Mhc.PW lead to partially lethality before adulthood. Adult survivors expressing Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls-largeT under the control of Scer\GAL4nrv2.PS present a small decrease in lifespan as compared to controls. Adult survivors expressing Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls-largeT under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB exhibit a rough and small eye phenotypes, as compared to controls.

Expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB results in a rough eye phenotype which can be partially rescued by Li[+] or by AR-A014418.

The semi-lethality caused by expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB can be partially rescued by AR-A014418.

Expression of Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 suppresses the loss of rhabdomeres seen when Hsap\HTTGMR.Q120 is expressed. An increase in visible rhabdomeres is seen at 1, 2 and 4 days post-eclosion.

One copy of Hsf1 enhances the eye morphology and lifespan defects seen when Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB.

Co-expression of panScer\UAS.cWa decreases the fraction of flies with rough eyes in animals expressing Zzzz\Poly-AlaA37.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP,T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PB.
