Su(z)2⁴ is an unstable allele as two isolates have been identified with distinct molecular signatures. Both isolates contain an 8-bp deletion in exon 5, but one (termed Su(z)2^4-34) contains an ~9kb insertion in intron 1 while the other (termed Su(z)2^4-31) does not. It is not certain that either isolate corresponds to the original Su(z)2⁴ mutation.
