Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 28.5[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R53C10 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30E08 in adult males significantly reduces the amount of sleep, compared to controls; activation does not significantly affect locomotor activity of awake adult males, compared to controls.
Optogenetic activation (using Cnoc\ChR1::Csub\ChRCsChrimson.IVS.20xUAS.Venus with 617 nm (red) light) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R53C10 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30E08 in adult females in an area of an arena significantly increases avoidance of that area, compared to controls; simultaneous activation of these cells and neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R15B01 and Hsap\RELAAD.R14C08 also increases avoidance, to a greater extent than either subset alone; there is no effect on angular speed or walking speed, compared to baseline, similar to controls, in either of these combinations.
