Adult (unstarved) females expressing fitScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4fit.PS show significant decrease in the preference for tryptone-supplemented (source of amino-acids) food both after sucrose pre-feeding or without any pre-feeding (this is accompanied by corresponding increase in preference for sucrose-only food in the latter case). Adult males also show reduced preference for tryptone food upon sugar pre-feeding but no aberrations in food choices are observed when no pre-feeding is administered. Both sexes display normal food choices after tryptone pre-feeding. The decrease in tryptone food preference after a sucrose pre-feeding is also observed when the fitScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 transgene is driven by Scer\GAL4elav-C155.

Pre-starved adult flies expressing fitScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of any of the following drivers Scer\GAL4fit.PS, Scer\GAL4Lsp2.3.1, Scer\GAL4ppl.PP, Scer\GAL4elav-C155, Scer\GAL4elav.Switch.PO (using RU486 to limit the expression to adulthood) or Scer\GAL4Ilp2.PU display significant decrease in food consumption upon re-feeding compared to controls.
