C350S
A nucleotide change at the first or second position of the Cys codon leads to a Ser mutation (base change unspecified). Change is either TGC to AGC or TGC to TCC.
su(Hw)M393 mutants are female sterile but retain the gypsy insulator function (assayed through body, wing and bristle phenotypes induced by mutations in the y, ct and f genes).
su(Hw)M393 allele partially complements each of the following alleles: su(Hw)V, su(Hw)2, su(Hw)e04061 or su(Hw)E8 as it rescues their loss of gypsy insulator function (assayed through body, wing and bristle phenotypes induced by mutations in the y, ct and f genes) but it fails to restore female fertility and it also complements the separation-of-function alleles su(Hw)7 and su(Hw)A460 that only affect the gypsy insulator function (and thus the transheterozygous flies are both fertile and have normal insulator function).
su(Hw)A460 does, whereas su(Hw)A2663 does not, complement su(Hw)M393, a separation-of-function allele that only impairs female fertility.
