Detailed Description

meru1 as well as meru1/Df(3L)BSC575 adult mutants show various sensory bristle defects (most frequently wing margin bristle duplication or missing thoracic macrochaetae).

The asymmetric cell division of sensory organ precursor cells is impaired in meru1 mutant pupae: the asymmetric localization of both pon or baz proteins is perturbed and the division axis is misaligned (relative to the anterior/posterior axis).

The wing margin bristle defects observed in meru1 mutant adults or in flies expressing bazNIG.5055R or pinsHMJ21351 or GαiHMS02138 under the control of Scer\GAL4nub.PU are mutually enhanceable. The bristle defect of meru1 mutant flies can be exacerbated further by Scer\GAL4nub.PU-driven expression of either fzNIG.17697R or fz1-1-1.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC (but not armScer\UAS.cWa).

The severity of both the wing margin bristle and the thoracic macrochaetae defects observed in meru1 or dsh1 flies are also significantly worsened in the double mutants.

Comments

The sensory bristle phenotype (duplication of wing margin bristles, missing thoracic macrochaetae) characteristic for meru1 mutant adults can be rescued by combination with meruUbi-p63E.T:Avic\GFP.
