Mosaic clones overexpressing Pi3K92EScer\UAS.cWa in the gastric caeca of the midgut are enlarged and show reduced autophagy compared to surrounding wild type cells.

Scer\GAL4smid-C161-mediated expression of Pi3K92EScer\UAS.cWa in the class IV dendritic aborizing sensory neuron ddaC results in a two-fold increase in mean soma volume and dendritic branch number.

Single cell leg motoneuron clones expressing Pi3K92EScer\UAS.cWa induced 96 hr after hatching have the following phenotypes: a two-fold increase in mean soma volume that is mirrored by an increase in the complexity of dendritic branching; the mean centre of mass is the same as controls; there is no major shift of dendrites to the midline. In a dorsoventral plane, these clones have a more complex dendritic pattern but cover much the same territory as wild type clones.

Expression of Pi3K92EUAS.cUa in larvae under the control of Scer\GAL4repo results in a thickened optic stalk due to increased numbers of glial cells; there is also overmigration of glial cells along the Bolwig nerve and glial cell numbers are significantly reduced in the eye imaginal disc at later stages of eye disc development, compared to controls.

Clones of larval intestinal epithelial cells or fat body cells expressing Pi3K92EScer\UAS.cWa are refractory to the induction of autophagy seen in wild type clones upon starvation.

Expression of Pi3K92EScer\UAS.cWa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 results in a significant reduction in diapause compared with control flies.

Expression of Pi3K92EScer\UAS.cWa in the visual system, under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF does not significantly affect diapause.

Addition of btl::Egfrλ.UAS to larvae expressing Pi3K92EUAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4repo, suppresses the phenotype of decreased glial cells in the eye disc and enhances the phenotype of increased glial migration along the Bolwig nerve.
