1bp deletion within the coding sequence, resulting in a frameshift and a stop codon at residue 372.
Deletion of a T residue in codon 337 of Elys leads to a frameshift and a premature stop at residue 372 after the addition of 34 novel amino acids.

The progeny of Elys2 homozygous females (and wild-type males) arrests at prometaphase/metaphase of the first cleavage division; free asters are observed in the embryo, the microtubule arrays in the spindle conjugate indiscriminately with chromosomes, sister centrosomes separate, one-to-all four centrosome may detach from the spindle pole; polar bodies anomalously form bipolar spindles that lack centrosomes. Eggs laid by Elys2 homozygous females are successfully penetrated by sperm of control individuals.
