ova1 and ova1/ova4 females present rudimentary ovaries. In agreement, ova1 females do not lay any eggs but do not show any other notable defects

ova1 female germline clones behave normally: the mutant clones are maintained in the niche, their descendant cells properly differentiate into germline cysts and the resulting egg chambers properly specify the oocyte.

The germaria of both ova1 homozygotes and ova1/ova4 transheterozygotes are either full of germline stem cell-like cells ("tumorous") or entirely germless.
