Deletion of the N-terminal part of the Pzl gene, resulting in deletion of the sequence encoding the first 202 amino acid residues.
PzlKO larvae exhibit an abnormal locomotor behavior, with severely increased periods of head lifting and spontaneous backward movements compared to controls, as well as severely higher frequency of bending their bodies laterally to greater than 90[o], which is rarely observed in wild-type controls; larvae show normal response sound, except at low-frequency (100Hz); larval Cho neurons show a significantly decreased response to body wall stimuli, as compared to controls. Adults do not show walking defects (speed or stride size) or climbing defects, as compared to controls.
