The coding sequence of the first coding exon of TyrRII has been replaced with a sequence cassette that encodes GAL4, knocking out TyrRII and allowing expression of the GAL4 driver under the control of endogenous TyrRII regulatory sequences.

      TyrRIIKOGal4 homozygous adults exhibit a significantly decreased sleep during night time (with significantly decreased bout duration but not number) while they do not exhibit any changes in sleep during day time (duration, bout number or bout duration) or sleep recovery rate after mechanical deprivation when compared to controls.
