Nemp^RR1 homozygotes exhibit small testes and ovaries.

Nemp^RR1 homozygous larval testes exhibit reduced proliferation and disorganization of germline and somatic cells, distorted nuclear envelope (NE) in cyst cells and germ cells (with highly convoluted NE's with regions of blebbing and deep invaginations). Nemp^RR1 homozygous adult testes exhibit reduced number of Vasa[+] germ cells and elongated haploid spermatids.

In Nemp^RR1 homozygous ovaries, most of the germline cells degenerate at the prepual stage, and the remaining germline cells do not complete oogenesis.
