In the syncytial blastoderm stage, term RNA is distributed uniformly throughout the embryo. In late cellular blastoderm, it is concentrated at the posterior pole. At gastrulation, the RNA is found in the invagination that gives rise to the posterior midgut and proctodeum, the region that will form the ventral furrow and the anterodorsal neurogenic region, but it disappears by the end of the period of germ band extension.
