RP2 neurons in heterozygotes show a 50% reduction in both the number of dendritic branches and the total dendrite length compared to controls.

After Pavlovian olfactory conditioning, Adf1nal show a slight but significant disruption of conditioned odour avoidance behaviour. Mutants display normal "task relevant" sensorimotor responses. Mutants also show wild-type shock reactivity at the and olfactory acuity to MCH and OCT. Adf1nal/Adf1le60 and Adf1nal homozygotes routinely survive to adulthood. Visual inspection of frontal sections of adult brains reveal nor obvious malformations in gross anatomy. Mutants have less synaptic boutons than wild-type. Miniature excitatory junctional current (mEJC) amplitude and frequency are normal in homozygous mutants.

The memory phenotype is revertable by excision of the P{lacW} insertion. Etymology: the mutant "nalyot" is named after one of Pavlov's dogs and means "fast appearance of gangsters" in Russian.

Etymology: 'nal' recalls Nalyot, one of Pavlov's dogs.
