Detailed Description

so9 flies have small eyes with reduced ocelli. At the larval stage, the eye field is reduced and neurogenesis arrests, first along the margins of the eye disc, and then in the centre.

so9/so3 adult males are viable and fertile, and have normal looking testes with no degenerating speramtocytes.

Homozygotes have slightly reduced and roughened eyes. The optic lobe primordium of homozygotes is reduced in size and movement into the head cavity is arrested at an early stage so it fails to invaginate.
