Animals expressing Hsc70-3D231S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4337Y die as first or second instar larvae. Animals expressing Hsc70-3D231S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4how-24B generally die as pupae or larvae (depending on the P{UAS-Hsc70-3.D231S} line used). Animals expressing Hsc70-3D231S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4how-24B that die as embryos are unable to puncture the egg membrane and hatch and those larvae that do hatch are unable to crawl. Embryos expressing Hsc70-3D231S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4how-24B have a wild-type muscle pattern. The majority of newly hatched larvae expressing Hsc70-3D231S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4156Y are able to sense, locate and burrow into a yeast paste food source within 20 minutes in a behavioural assay. 2 day old larvae expressing Hsc70-3D231S.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4156Y are unable to locate the food source.
