1136bp deletion starting from the site of the P{PZ}lwr05486 insertion and extending proximally, removing part of the first exon of lwr and extending into Spp.
hemocyte & nucleus | supernumerary (with lwr4-3)
hemocyte | increased number (with lwr5)
lamellocyte | increased number (with lwr4-3)
lamellocyte | increased number (with lwr5)
Over 90% of lwr14/lwr5 larvae have melanotic tumours, which are surrounded by lamellocytes, while only ~20% of lwr4-3/lwr14 larvae show this phenotype. Four days after egg lay, percentages of circulating hemocytes and lamellocytes are significantly higher in lwr14/lwr5 mutants than in controls, while lwr4-3/lwr14 mutants show high lamellocyte percentages, but have circulating hemocyte levels that are within control range. More than 6% of lwr4-3/lwr14 hemocytes, in both lymph glands and in circulation, are multinucleate and some hemocytes are abnormally large. There is no significant population of multinucleate hemocytes in lwr5/lwr14 mutants. There is a significant reduction in crystal cells in both lwr14/lwr5 (>20-fold) and lwr4-3/lwr14 (5- to 10-fold) mutants.
