Description

Imprecise excision of the P{lacW} element, resulting in a deletion of open reading frame sequences of exons 3 to 5 common to both Trxr-1 transcripts.

About 4kb of DNA has been deleted removing most of the Trxr-1 gene.

Detailed Description

Trxr-1Δ1/+ mutant adult brains do not exhibit neurodegeneration or increased apoptosis of the cortex and neuropil, as compared with controls.

Homozygotes hatch and about 70% survive as first instar larvae but die during the second larval instar without any morphologically discernible phenotypes.

About 70% of mutant larvae survive to the first instar stage, only to die as second instar larvae without showing morphologically discernable phenotypes.

Trxr-1Δ1 heterozygotes expressing Hsap\MAPTE14.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU are short lived as compared to controls.

Comments

Expression of Trxr-1mito.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI partially rescues the pre-adult lethality of Trxr-1Δ1 flies and also increases the lifespan of the rescued adults to about half that of the lifespan of wild-type flies. Expression of both Trxr-1mito.Scer\UAS and Trxr-1cyto.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI rescues the lifespan of Trxr-1Δ1 flies to normal.
