Detailed Description

Adult flies carrying CSN5null mutant clones in the wings display extra wing veins.

Homozygous clones in the thorax result in hair cell duplication phenotypes.

About half of CSN5quo-3/CSN5null animals emerge as adults. These escapers are overall smaller than wild type and have droopy wings.

Homozygotes do not pupate, remaining in a prolonged third larval instar. Mutant larvae do not show moulting defects. Mutant third instar larvae develop melanotic capsules in their hemolymph, which are first seen floating freely in the hemocoel 4 days after the second moult and increase in frequency until by the late third instar over 80% of the mutant larvae contain these capsules. Embryos are not recovered from females containing homozygous germline clones. Oogenesis is arrested at stage 5-6 in these females. Homozygous larvae are sensitive to methyl methanesulfonate compared to controls.

CSN5null/+ restores normal appearing growth to Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096, Trc8Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC female wings and substantially increases wing size in male wings.

CSN5null/+ partially restores the anterior/posterior size ratio of Scer\GAL4en.PU, Trc8Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC wings towards wild type.
