The overall morphology of the male X polytene chromosome is retained in E(bx)^Nurf301-4/Df(3L)3643 mutants, although regional puffing of the chromosome is seen in most cases.

E(bx)^Nurf301-2/E(bx)^Nurf301-4 mutant larvae exhibit melanotic tumours. The circulating hemocyte cell number in hemolymph isolated from homozygous mutants is increased considerably with respect to wild-type animals, having about 10500 per ul^-1, compared to about 4500 in wild-type.
