Heterozygous males show a transformation of the A5 tergite into a tergite resembling that of A4. gpp61A/gpp8 males show loss of A5 tergite coloration and additional sternite hairs. gpp61A/gpp8 animals have an arista to leg transformation and males show a reduction in the number of sex comb teeth. Dissected gpp61A/gppX male pupae show a reduction in the number of sex comb teeth and also have sex combs on the fourth tarsal segment of the first leg.
gpp[+]/gpp61A is an enhancer of male genitalia phenotype of Abd-BM1
gpp61A weakly suppresses the pairing-sensitive silencing seen in flies carrying P{Mcp-ff#13}101 and P{Mcp-w#14}AP-2stummelbein in cis, but does not suppress the pairing-sensitive silencing seen in flies carrying P{Mcp-w#11}16 and P{Mcp-w#11}102 in cis or P{Mcp-wy#2}63 and P{Mcp-ff#15}30 in cis. The penetrance of the rotated genitalia phenotype seen in Abd-BM1 males is enhanced if they are also heterozygous for gpp61A. The enhancement is stronger if the gpp allele is inherited maternally.
Selected as: a mutation that dominantly suppresses pairing-sensitive silencing of the mini-w gene in P{Mcp-ff#10}5 or P{Fab7-w#un3}18.73.1.
