Description

Retains the original P{EP}chrbEP1035 insertion and also contains a new P{EP} insertion (in the opposite orientation) in the 5' untranslated region, approximately 450bp upstream of the chrb open reading frame.

Mutant flies have the same weight as control flies. Clones in the adult eye show no increase in cell size in the mutant ommatidia. Under starvation conditions, homozygous flies live significantly shorter than control flies.

scylEP9.85 chrb180/Df(3L)vin4 double mutant flies have increased body weight compared to control flies. scyl31 chrb180/Df(3L)vin4 double mutant flies have increased body weight compared to control flies. scyl113 chrb180/Df(3L)vin4 double mutant flies have increased body weight compared to control flies. Cells in scyl113 chrb180 double mutant clones in the eye are slightly enlarged compared to wild type. Cells in scylEP9.85 chrb180 double mutant clones in the eye are slightly enlarged compared to wild type. scyl113 chrb180, scyl31 chrb180 and scylEP9.85 chrb180 double homozygotes are sensitive to hypoxia; double homozygotes show reduced survival to adulthood under hypoxic conditions compared to normoxic conditions. The large eye phenotype seen in animals in which the head is homozygous for gig192 (induced using the eyFLP system) is not further enhanced if the heads are also homozygous for both scylEP9.85 and chrb180.
