The halteres of Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies have some wing-type bristles and trichomes.

Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies show a haltere-to-wing transformation as the capitellum of the haltere produces between 4 and 7 wing margin-type sensory bristles.

Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies have slightly enlarged halteres with a few ectopic bristles.

Expression of DlScer\UAS.cHa in a Ubxlac1-GAL4 background (the transgene expression is driven by the P{GawB} in the insertion that generates the Ubxlac1-GAL4 allele) enhances the haltere phenotype of Ubxlac1-GAL4 flies, leading to a large number of wing-type bristle and trichomes on the haltere. No such enhancement is seen when the E(spl)Scer\UAS.cGa transgene is expressed.

Expression of vnScer\UAS.cSa results in an enhancement of the haltere-to-wing transformation of Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ mutants as the capitellum of the halteres produce 30-35 wing margin-type bristles in vnScer\UAS.cSa; Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies while there are only 4-7 bristles in Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies. Expression of EgfrScer\UAS.cBa also enhances the Ubxlac1-GAL4 phenotype as EgfrScer\UAS.cBa; Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies produce 40-45 wing margin-type bristles on the capitellum. The halteres of Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies expressing either vnScer\UAS.cSa or EgfrScer\UAS.cBa also show increased pigmentation compared to Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ or wild-type flies.

Expression of argosScer\UAS.cMa completely suppresses the haltere-to-wing transformation of Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ flies.

Expression of either drlEP41 or AlhEP74 results in an enhancement of the Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ haltere-to-wing transformation phenotype.

Expression of Syx1AEP28 results in complete suppression of the Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ haltere-to-wing transformation phenotype.

The increased size and ectopic bristles seen in Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ are suppressed by RYBPScer\UAS.cBa (Ubxlac1-GAL4 is also a GAL4 driver:Scer\GAL4Ubx-lac1-Gal4), but the resulting halteres have trichomes resembling wing hairs, rather than the small trichomes normally present on halteres. This phenotype is suppressed by Pc3/+.
