Homozygous eyes generated by the EGUF method are small and rough.

Homozygotes die as third instar larvae at 25[o]C. The mutant larvae have small salivary glands that have small cells and have no imaginal discs.

Eyes composed of homozygous clones are malformed and smaller than normal.

Homozygous clones induced in the eye disc are always smaller than their wild-type twin spots, due to a decrease in the number of cells in the mutant clones. Ommatidia composed completely of homozygous cells are sometimes normally constructed, containing 8 photoreceptors arranged in a trapezoid, but these mutant ommatidia and all the photoreceptor cell rhabdomeres within them appear smaller than the wild-type cells surrounding them (the rhabdomeres are on average 45% the size of wild type). In mosaic ommatidia at the clone borders, the mutant cells are usually smaller than wild type, while the wild-type cells are of normal size.

arm3/+ ; lqfR03685/lqfRΔ117 and arm8/+ ; lqfR03685/lqfRΔ117 animals die in the pupal case. They have small or absent eyes, small head capsules and also have morphological defects in the head cuticle, wings and legs.

wgl-17/+ ; lqfR03685/lqfRΔ117 adult escapers have severely defective eyes, ranging from kidney-shaped to nearly absent. They also have defects in the head cuticle.

Photoreceptor cell rhabdomeres are on average 23% the size of wild type in InR339 lqfRΔ117 double mutant clones in the eye (significantly smaller than in either single mutant).
