Adults expressing AMPKαJF01951 for 2 days under the combined control of Scer\GAL4GMR54H02 and Gal80[ts] (for temporal control of expression) exhibit decreased olfactory memory under starvation conditions, but not when fed. Starvation induces enlarged lipid droplets in the brain region where cortex glia enwrap mushroom body neuronal soma.

Expression of AMPKαJF01951 under the control of either Scer\GAL4tub.PU or Scer\GAL4Act.PU results in lethality in late pupal stage with no eclosing adults.

Expression of AMPKαJF01951 in the fat body under the control of Scer\GAL4DcG results in significant hyperglycaemia.
