The expression of Gug75QN.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT induces the formation of autophagosomes (Atg8a puncta) in the photoreceptor cells of the retina, as compared to controls.

Flies expressing Gug75QN.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF during the adult stage (using the a temperature-sensitive Scer\GAL80 line to control the timing of expression) show weak neurodegeneration in the eye at 14 days of age.

28 day old flies expressing Gug75QN.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT show loss of photoreceptor cells in approximately 40% of ommatidia.

Expression of Gug75QN.Scer\UAS in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU results in progressive depigmentation. At 14 days old, degenerating photoreceptor cells display large autophagosomes.
