Heterozygous kncol85-GAL4 embryos have a few 'angled' muscles maintaining both dorsal and ventral anterior attachment sites, indicating a partial DA3>DA2 transformation. The penetrance of this phenotype increases in homozygotes and, in addition, 7% of segments show a complete DA3>DA2 morphological transformation.
40% of segments in kncol85-GAL4/kncol-1 embryos show a complete DA3>DA2 morphological transformation. In most other segments, the DA3>DA2 muscle maintains thin projections toward the wild type DA3 attachment site, suggesting an incomplete transformation.

kncol85-GAL4/+ and, more so, kncol85-GAL4/kncol85-GAL4 aggravates the DA3 muscle defects seen in nau188 embryos. Inclusion of kncol85-GAL4 also increases the number of ill-formed muscles at the expense of DA3>DA2 muscle transformations. However, the fraction of DA3>DO5 transformations and DA3 +DO5 bifid fibres is not significantly increased by lowering kn levels.
