aurB35.33 mutant germline clones exhibit defects in early germ-cell development, with the formation of a giant germline stem cell that fills the entire germarium. These mutant cells display highly polyploid nuclei, enlarged spectrosomes and do not come out of the germarium.

The fraction of egg chambers containing 32 cells and the fraction of germaria containing 'stem cysts' in which the female germline stem cells are interconnected to daughter cells is reduced in aurB35.33/shrbG5 double heterozygotes compared to shrbG5 heterozygotes.

A aurB35.33/+ background partially rescues the extra germline cells phenotype found in females expressing DetS125E.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16.
