Scer\GAL4btl.PU-mediated co-expression of kkvScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP and rebScer\UAS.cMa results in early chitin accumulation in the trachea and results in tracheal branches becoming short, very straight and generally unfused. There are defects in tracheal cell shape and cell intercalation. Furthermore, chitin is also deposited in tissues where it does not normally accumulate, including the midline and the proventriculus.

Scer\GAL4fkh.PU-mediated co-expression of kkvScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP and rebScer\UAS.cMa, or of kkvScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP and expScer\UAS.RB, results in chitin accumulation in the salivary glands, causing improper invagination/extension.

Scer\GAL4ap.PU-mediated co-expression of kkvScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP and rebScer\UAS.cMa results in apical accumulation of chitin between the peripodial membrane and the epithelia, leading to strong morphogenetic defects in the adult wing and notum.

Scer\GAL448Y-mediated co-expression of kkvScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP and rebScer\UAS.cMa does not result in extracellular chitin deposition in mesodermal/endodermal tissues.
