The R31F06 enhancer fragment is fused upstream of the Drosophila synthetic core promoter (DSCP) followed by the GAL4(DBD)::Zip- hemidriver (component of the 'Split GAL4' system, contains the GAL4 DNA-binding domain). A Hsp70 transcriptional terminator is present.

      Acute thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 30[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R31F06 and Hsap\RELAAD.R58E02, in combination with a paired odor, in adults results in a significant increase in short-term associative aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls.

      Inhibition (using shits.UAS.cUa at 33[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R31F06 and Hsap\RELAAD.R58E02 in adults significantly reduces short-term associative appetitive, but not aversive, olfactory memory, compared to controls, with no effect on sugar preference.
