Description

Deletion of two segments within Ndg ( 2R:10314236..10315587 and 2R:10316460..10319543 ), plus insertion of two nucleotides (TT) after position 2R:10316459 .

Deletion that removes part of the Ndg transcription unit, including the transcription start site. The CG34222 gene that is located in an intron of Ndg is not affected.

Comment:

A 1352bp deletion that removes the translation start site of Ndg. One of two deletions in Ndg in mutant. CG34222 located in a downstream intron of Ndg is not affected.

Comment:

A 3084bp deletion that removes much of the coding region of Ndg. Two nucleotides (TT) are inserted at the site of the deletion. One of two deletions in Ndg in mutant. CG34222 located in a downstream intron of Ndg is not affected.

Detailed Description

Ndg1 mutants adults do not show any obvious morphological abnormalities; homozygous females lay significantly fewer egg but these do not show any obvious morphological defects. Ndg1 homozygotes and Ndg1/Df(2R)BSC281 transheterozygotes show a significantly longer chill coma recovery time, but no defects in flight or climbing activity under control conditions, as compared to controls.

Ndg1 homozygotes exhibit basement membrane discontinuity in the larval fat body and in adult indirect flight muscles, but do not show any obvious basement membrane defects in the embryo, larval epidermis, imaginal discs, salivary glands, gut, muscles, VNC or follicular epithelium in the ovary; Ndg1/Ndg2, Ndg1/NdgΔRod-G3.1 and Ndg1/Df(2R)BSC281 transheterozygotes also show discontinuity of the basement membrane in the larval fat body. The larval fat body of Ndg1 homozygotes present significantly smaller lipid droplets, as compared to controls.

Ndg1 homozygotes also heterozygous for LanA160 or LanA216 show an elongated larval VNC, as compared to Ndg1 homozygotes, LanA160 heterozygotes or LanA216 heterozygotes.
