Rnf14617/Rnf14678 transheterozygous adults do not show significant differences in the numbers of hatched eggs, pupated larvae and enclosed adult, and adults do not show overt morphological defects or changes in food uptake. Adults do show a significant increase in the numbers of intestinal stem cells/enteroblasts under either regular diet or nutrient deprivation (5% sucrose diet), as compared to heterozygous or wild-type controls.

Rnf14617 homozygous adults show a severe decrease in lifespan under nutrient deprivation (5% sucrose diet), as compared to controls. Their midguts show an increase in cell density, with a significant increase in the numbers of intestinal stem cells/enteroblasts, but no changes in the density of enterocytes or of enteroendocrine cells and enterocytes combined, as compared to heterozygous controls.

The adult midguts of Rnf14617/Rnf14678 transheterozygotes and of Rnf14617 homozygotes show an increase in intestinal stem cell proliferation (as shown by increased EdU and phospho-H3 staining), as compared to wild-type controls.

Rnf14617 clonal cells in the adult midgut are able to differentiate into enterocytes and enteroendocrine cells.

The expression of TnksUAS.Tag:FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU in both Rnf14617/Rnf14678 transheterozygous and heterozygous backgrounds results in a rough eye phenotype, which is more severe in the homozygous backgrounds. The expression of AxnUAS.GFP in the same backgrounds does not affect eye morphology.
