The genomic region encompassing the distal polyA site and most of the long 3' UTR of Dscam1 is replaced with a 1.8kb casette containing a Disc\RFPDsRed.3xP3.cUa marker flanked by loxP sites; the proximal polyadenylation site is retained.
2 kb of the long 3'UTR and and distal polyA site was deleted and replaced with a 1.8 kb RFP cassette. The deletion endpoints were determined from the deleted sequence provided to FlyBase by the author.
Dscam1ΔL homozygous adults have a significant reduction in arborization of the PDF-positive ventral lateral neurons, compared to controls; there is also a low-penetrance phenotype of loss of the L-shaped structure of the adult mushroom body, compared to controls, this phenotype is seen at 100 percent penetrance when mutants also express Dscam1miRNA.UAS.18-20 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU.
