Ret^ko and Ret^ko/Df(2L)BSC312 third instar larval C4da neurons exhibit a less complex dendrite tree (i.e. reduced coverage, shorter dendrites with less branches, less terminals but more isoneuronal dendritic crossings, and increased proportion of detached dendrites), as compared to controls; Ret^ko mutants also show decreased dendritic growth, as compared to controls.

Adult flies mutant for Ret^KO or bearing somatic MARCM clones mutant for Ret^KO display significant decrease in midgut stem cell proliferation (assessed by number of pH3-positive cells or number of cells per clone, respectively) both during normal homeostasis and ageing and during chemical damage-induced regeneration. However, the number of stem cell per midgut as well as the ratios of their differentiated progeny are comparable to those observed in wild-type flies.
