Description

The RAS superfamily of small GTPases are GDP/GTP-regulated molecular switches. GDP/GTP cycling is controlled by two main classes of regulatory protein: Guanine Nucleotide Exchange Factors (GEFs) and GTPase Activating Proteins (GAPs). Ras superfamily GTPases are active in their GTP bound form. GEFs promote their activation by accelerating the exchange of bound GDP for GTP. (Adapted from PMID:15731001, FBrf0158741).

Notes on Group

CG9135, an RCC1 domain-containing protein, is orthologous to mammalian RCC2. RCC2 has been shown to possess GEF activity for Ral (PMID:26158537), whilst inhibiting the activation of Rac1 (PMID:25074804). As CG9135 is uncharacterized, it is not possible to confidently place it within a specific GEF group and has therefore been omitted
