A mechanism of programmed cell death controlled by CED-3/ICE is conserved among widely divergent animal species including Drosophila, and the system provides a tool to dissect cell death mechanism of CED-3/ICE proteases.

Hsap\CASP1 can elicit cell death in various cells types. The Hsap\CASP1 expression pattern corresponds to the region where the resulting morphological defect is observed.
