Detailed Description

Over 90% of heterozygous females have an ectopic wing vein phenotype.

Flies carrying either corto07128b/+, corto07128b/cortol1 or corto07128b/corto420 exhibit ectopic wing veins that mainly arise close to longitudinal veins 2, 3, 5 and to the posterior cross-vein. Ectopic wing vein phenotype of corto07128b/+ is nearly fully penetrant. This phenotype is more severe in flies heteroallelic for corto loss-of-function mutations: corto07128b/cortol1 and corto07128b/corto420.

Flies carrying corto07128b/+ do not exhibit blistered wings.

The average number of crystal cells per embryo is reduced (to 14.5) in homozygous stage 13-14 embryos compared to wild type (36 +/- 2.2 cells on average). The number of plasmatocytes is also significantly reduced compared to wild-type embryos.

The penetrance of the ectopic wing vein phenotype seen in corto07128b/+ females (over 90% penetrance) is reduced if they are also heterozygous for one of EloAG4930 (38.3% penetrance), EloBEP3132 (26.6%), EloCSH1520 (14.8%) or EloCSH1299 (27.5%).

corto07128b/+ enhances the ectopic wing vein phenotype induced by bsEY23316/+. In addition, some of the trans-heterozygous flies have blistered wings which is not observed in flies that are only heterozygote for bsEY23316.

corto07128b/+ enhances the blistered wing phenotype induced by expression of rhoEP3704 under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU.

corto07128b/+ enhances the ectopic wing vein phenotype induced by expression of either rlUAS.cKa or CG5110dsRNA.UASp under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU.

corto07128b/+ lowers penetrance and expressivity of the blistered wing phenotype induced by expression of rlSem.MB.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU.

One copy of corto07128b enhances the expressivity of the A6-A7 transformation seen in Abd-BFab7-1/+ males. The A6 segment has completely disappeared in 100% of male flies.

Expression of CycGdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.NP3121 and one copy of corto07128b enhance the A7 to A6 homeotic transformation seen in the few Abd-BFab7-1/+ male escapers.

corto07128b enhances the frequency of cuticle defects and rotated genitalia seen in males when CycGdsRNA.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32. The frequency of female cuticle defects is also increased. The cuticle defects seen in females expressing CycGdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.NP3121 are not enhanced in the presence of one copy of corto07128b.

Separable from: CG1049607128a. Evidence suggests that the "l(3)07128" line contains 2 P{PZ} insertions; one at 57E (P{PZ}CG1049607128a) corresponding to the site of the flanking sequence AQ073341, and one at 82E (P{PZ}corto07128b) which causes a mutation in corto.
