Inversion breakpoint truncates the protein at amino acid position 310.
An inversion removes the 3' half of the z gene.
Breakpoint in middle of z coding region.
Lacks about 800 nucleotides of the zeste coding region, but otherwise the 5' half of the mutant gene is normal (Pirrotta, Manet, Hardon, Bickel and Benson, 1987). The transcript of 1.4-1.8 kb (Mariani, Pirrotta and Manet, 1985; Gunaratne, Mansukhani, Lipari, Liou, Martindale and Goldberg, 1986) ends shortly after the 3A3 breakpoint of the inversion <up>breakpoint placed on molecular map of zeste at about +2.0 kb, the origin being the first EcoRI site in clone CS1014 (Gunaratne, Mansukhani, Lipari, Liou, Martindale and Goldberg, 1986)</up>.
Males have dull brown eye color in zv77h background.
Eye colour: nearly wild-type, but very slightly variegated.
zae(bx) is an enhancer of macrochaeta phenotype of snaSco
zae(bx) is an enhancer of metathoracic laterotergite phenotype of Ubx1
zae(bx) is an enhancer of metathoracic laterotergite phenotype of Ubxbx-34e
zae(bx) is an enhancer of phenotype of Ubxunspecified
Enhances the bristle loss phenotype of Tp(2;2)Sco/+ flies.
Nonspecific recessive enhancer of "bithorax" alleles of Ubx. Enhances the development of the dorsal metanotum in Ubxbx-34e/Ubx1 from a few hairs to a broad band of hairy tissue somewhat like that seen in Ubxbx-34e homozygotes. The posterior portion of the halteres shows a slight wing-like modification in Ubxbx-3/Ubxpbx-1 flies. This phenotype is enhanced by zae(bx).
E.B. Lewis, Feb. 1953.
Does not support transvection at dpp or Ubx.
Does not support transvection effects at Ubx. Can produce a peptide that includes the z DNA binding domain and can modify the phenotype of weak z alleles.
Antibody binding is abolished.
Suppresses of eya2/eya4 transvection.
