When scScer\UAS.cHa is driven by Scer\GAL4sr-md710 animals have large bristles that have longer shafts than those of normal microchaetes. These bristle display complex projections with a large number of branches. When scScer\UAS.cHa is driven by Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 animals have very long bristles, some of which are as long as macrochaetae. These often display an anterior dorsocentral (aDC) like projection pattern or when close to the extant posterior DC (pDC) macrochaete, a pDC-like projection. They often have more side branches.

Expression of scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-C253 induces ectopic macrochaetae on the notum. Expression of scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4sr-md710 results in ectopic macrochaetae in the domain of sr expression. The longitudinal flight muscles of these adults are very much thinner and more numerous than normal and the animals cannot fly, although they can walk.

scScer\UAS.cHa; Scer\GAL4ap-md544 adults have ectopic bristles in their nota.

Expression of scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 causes few or no extra bristles. Expression of scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 results in numerous extra thoracic bristles.

When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4C96 throughout the ZNC in the developing wing, G2 arrest occurs in both posterior and anterior compartments.

Flies expressing scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 produce ectopic sensory structures; ectopic bristles resembling double row margin bristles are induced along the distal anterior-posterior boundary of the wing, and campaniform sensilla are induced more proximally on the wing. Ectopic capitellar sensillae are induced on the proximal haltere, and ectopic bristles resembling double row wing margin bristles are induced on the distal haltere.

Ectopic bristles develop on the scutellum.

Co-expression of srb.Scer\UAS removes most of the ectopic bristles on the notum caused by expression of scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-C253 and also removes many of the extant ones.

Co-expression of scScer\UAS.cHa does not significantly alter the small eye phenotype caused by expression of wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, but does fully suppress the loss of interommatidial bristles seen in these flies. Co-expression of scScer\UAS.cHa restores some progression of the morphogenetic furrow in animals expressing wgwg.3'UTR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.

Expression of both sensScer\UAS.cNa and scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 causes numerous extra bristles to appear, including in areas where either expressed alone does not give rise to ectopic bristles, such as dorsal and ventral portions of the head. Clones of sensE2 in the thorax suppress the extra micro- and macrochaetae- produced by expression of scScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544.
